What a TMA actually does.

Every other machine on this site is there to get work done. This one is there so your crew goes home.

It sits between your crew and a driver who is not paying attention.

A truck mounted attenuator parks between live traffic and the work zone with an energy-absorbing crash cushion deployed off the back. If a vehicle fails to stop, the attenuator takes the impact and slows the vehicle down instead of it arriving in the middle of your people. That is the whole job, and it is the reason the unit is worth what it costs.

It goes where a static barrier cannot.

Mobile and short-duration work is the problem case. A crew moving along a road, a lane closure that shifts through the day, or a job that is finished before it would be worth setting up concrete barrier. The TMA moves with the work rather than fixing you to one layout.

Your traffic management plan decides whether you need one.

Whether a TMA is required, and what specification it has to meet, is set by the traffic management plan for the job and the requirements of the road authority for that road. It is not our call. If your plan specifies one, that is your answer. If you are not sure, check with your traffic management provider before you price the works, because finding out late is expensive.

Two units, so book them with the program.

AT01 and AT02. Roadworks programs tend to book these in blocks rather than by the day, so if your works are already scheduled, lock the attenuator in at the same time as the rest of your traffic management instead of the week before you start.

Attenuator truck questions.

The things people ask before they book.

What is a truck mounted attenuator?

A truck fitted with an energy-absorbing crash cushion on the back. It parks between live traffic and the work zone so that if a vehicle fails to stop, the attenuator absorbs the impact rather than the crew wearing it.

Do I need one for my job?

That is set by your traffic management plan and the road authority's requirements for the road you are working on, not by us. If your plan specifies a TMA, you need one. If you are unsure, check with your traffic management provider before pricing the works.

Do you supply an operator?

Most attenuator work goes out wet. The unit has to be positioned and repositioned correctly as the work moves along, and that is not something worth leaving to chance. Dry hire is possible where your crew is already trained and set up for it.

Can you supply it alongside other plant?

Yes, and it is the usual way it goes out. Roadworks jobs generally need the attenuator plus excavators, tippers and often a water truck for dust. Booking them together means one quote, one point of contact, and machines that turn up on the same program instead of three suppliers to chase.
